To learn more about how you can protect yourself from criminals using counterfeit bills, why not arrange for a talk for you and your staff?  As well as the helpful tips listed below, you will learn:

1. What to look for

2. What to do should you receive a counterfeit bill

3. Further options to protect your business

Puzzle Number (see-through number): Look through the bill. Hold it to the light. You'll see that the irregular marks create a perfectly aligned puzzle number matching the bill's value.

Raised Ink: If you touch the large number, coat of arms, and text "BANK OF CANADA" - BANQUE DU CANADA" you'll notice that the raised ink feels thicker.
Metallic Stripe: Tilt the bill. Numbers and two toned maple leaves in the metallic stripe change colour and light up. The number will match the bill's value.
Ghost Image: Holding it to the light, look through the bill. The ghost image will match the portrait, the number above the ghost image's shoulder will match the bill's value, and dashes form a continuous solid line.
Dashes: Tilt the bill. Dashes change from gold to green and tiny numbers next to "CAN" match the bill's value.
Check for UV (fluorenscence): Under UV light, check text "BANK OF CANADA" - BANQUE DU CANADA" and the number matching the bill's value. They will glow in red and yellow. Look for scattered red and yellow fibres on both sides of the bill.
