Graffiti

Graffiti removalWe’ve all seen them…. Those sometimes colourful, sometimes hurried, and highly visible additions to walls in our town and neighbourhood. Although some might argue that they are pieces of art or a form of expression, the fact remains that any form of graffiti that is applied to a piece of property without permission is considered vandalism.

It is best to clean graffiti as soon as possible so the paint doesn’t have time to absorb into the surface. It is worth it to keep paint or removal products on hand so that you can quickly paint over or remove the graffiti should it become necessary. Although some graffiti can be removed with soap and water if done soon enough, most spray cans are oil based so remember to paint over the offending art first with a good oil based primer. You can paint any other type of paint over top of that, so you can easily apply water based latex over top if you prefer.

How Can I Use Landscaping to Deter Graffiti Vandals?

Although many products exist to deter graffiti vandals, an alternative exists which, depending on watering access, can have excellent long-term benefits.

The following list offers ideas for shrubs and vining. However, prior to your selection a nursery person should be contacted to be sure that these plants are offered by the nursery, and are compatible with your soil and climate.

While there are no plants that will actually catch a vandal/prowler, the plants on this list, through thorns or prickly foliage will restrict access. Combined with proper security, you can make the property virtually vandal/prowler proof.
